Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe. She was the daughter of Olden Wilson, a ironworker and Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy was one of six kids. Nancy was influenced by her father's taste in music as well as the music played at her family home. At the age of four, Nancy knew that she wanted to be an accomplished musician. She discovered her talent for music through participating in choirs of the church. In her early teens when she was 15, she got a spot on an audition on television and started appearing regularly in The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while being in High School. In the year she turned 15, Nancy began her career in night clubs. Nancy graduated high school at 17 and attended Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a entire year. Then she dropped out to pursue a profession as a professional musician. In 1956, she recorded her debut album along with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They performed together between 1956 and 1958. Nancy's very first Dot Records recording was made while she was in the Big Band of Carolyn Club. Cannonball told her she should make the move to New York and go to The Big Town to continue her professional career. She was commissioned to perform in The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx which was where her agent had come across her. He signed a contract with Capitol records in 1960, and she debuted that year, with a single. Guess who I saw this morning. Capitol released five Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. Initially focusing on blues and rhythm under Adderley's influence she moved away from R&B as she embraced the torch and jazz genres. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley collaborated in 1962, which helped push her up the charts. In 1963, she scored her biggest hit with Tell Me the Truth. The following year, she received an invitation to perform at the New York's Coconut Grove, the most famous club in America.
