At the age of 15, she won the talent show on T.V. and started appearing regularly in The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while at the time she was still in high school. In the same year, she began working in nightclubs. Nancy graduated high school at 17 and attended Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a full year. Then she dropped out to pursue a job as a professional musician. Her first record was recorded in 1956 with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group toured with her from 1956-1958. While in the group Nancy released her first record in the studio of Dot Records. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she relocate in New York so as to enhance her career. In 1959 Nancy made the move to The Big Town. The agent of Adderley heard about her in The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she signed. Within a month after her arrival to New York, she was in the city. The contract was signed signing her with Capitol records in 1960 and she debuted that year by releasing the single. Guess Who? Capitol released five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. Adderley helped her move away from R&B to music that was more jazz-based and torch songs. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 helped to make her a star and her smash hit Tell Me the Truth was made available in the year 1963.
